3-hour-walk to the city’s major sights (cont.)
Near the Little Mermaid, enter Kastellet, one of Europe’s best preserved fortifications. Exit near the Esplanaden end of Kastellet, turn right on to Esplanaden, and continue straight ahead on to Gernersgade. Soon you will see the beautiful yellow Nyboder houses, built for navy personnel by King Christian IV during the 17th century.
Turn left on to Kronprinsessegade and continue straight ahead. At the Dronningens Tværgade intersection, enter through the gate to the Kongens Have, one of Denmark’s most impressive Renaissance gardens and home to the beautiful Rosenborg Castle.
Exit at the Gothersgade end of the park. Continue down Landemærket to the Round Tower, probably the most famous building erected by architect-king Christian IV.
Turn right on to St. Kannikestræde and proceed straight ahead to Frue Plads. In this square, you will find the old main building of the University of Copenhagen, and the Copenhagen Cathedral, Church of Our Lady, a setting of many important functions and events such as the funerals of Hans Christian Andersen and Søren Kierkegaard, and the wedding of the Crown Prince Couple in 2004.
Turn right and continue through the quaint narrow streets of the Latin Quarter - Skt. Peders Stræde, Larsbjørnsstræde, Studiestræde, and Vestergade - on to the Town Hall Square. From here, it is only two minutes walk to the Tourist Information.
