Højvang Museum is a local heritage museum featuring exhibitions on agriculture, traditional crafts and daily life in the region. The museum is located on the Højvanggaard farm in Egtved and is the last of the town’s old farms where all the original farm buildings have been preserved. Indeed, the museum looks much like it did when it was an active farm.
Højvang Museum has four buildings, including three former stables and barns and a small washhouse. The north wing offers facilities used for museum activities such Midsummer’s Eve festivities, Christmas markets and exhibitions. There are also a kitchen, a toilet and a small workshop.
The southern wing features a local pre-historic exhibition with potsherds and stone axes. Here you also find a replica of the coffin of the Egtved Girl and a collection of old weights. In the west wing, you find an exhibition entitled "Egtved town in 1898", which shows the town in 1898 miniaturised to a scale of 1:100.
The washhouse highlights an exhibition on how laundry has been done through the ages.
Højvanggaard is owned by the local Egtved municipality and is operated by the Egtved Museum Association, which was founded in 1982.
