Frederiksberg Allé to The Black Horse:

Start at the Vesterbrogade end of Frederiksberg Allé, a beautiful avenue lined with luscious bass trees. The avenue was laid out as the King’s private access route to the Frederiksberg Palace when this was built at the beginning of the 18th century.

Continue down Frederiksberg Allé and then make a left turn on to Henrik Ibsens Vej. At the Vesterbrogade end of the street, on your left, you will find the 200-year-old Sorte Hest (the Black Horse), a charming ochre building and former inn.

Today, the building houses a number of attractive apartments as well as an excellent confectioner’s shop, Gjæstgiveriet.

Carlsberg, Zoo and the Gardens:

Cross Vesterbrogade on to Vesterfælledvej, where you turn immediately right on to Carstensgade.

Here you will find the charming inner city hamlet of Humleby (“Hopsville”), a next door neighbour to the Carlsberg Breweries. Proceed down Carstensgade and Jerichausgade and turn right on to Ny Carlsbergvej. Soon you will see the impressive Elephant Gate, a part of the old brewery complex.

Enter through the gate, cross the road, and stroll through the lovely Søndermarken Park.

Here, you can visit the intriguing underground Museum of Modern Glass Art.

At the Roskildevej end of the park, situated on a hill top, you will find the Copenhagen Zoo and the Frederiksberg Palace (The Military Academy).

The palace overlooks the enchanting Frederiksberg Gardens, teeming with picnicking families.
