Slangerup Cathedral, Sct. Michael

Magnificent Renaissance cathedral enlarged and rebuilt 1588 to its present appearence. The interior is very rich with a destinctive and typical Nordic light from 12 big windows, which add a rare elegance to the impressive room. A characteristic, rare rood screen divides the chancel from the nave. Rich inventory, including a whole series of large sepulchral tablets on the walls. The pews still have their original Mediaval gables. The altarpiece from 1612 has an inset woodcarving from 1540 - probably taken from the now demolished Sankt Nikolaj Church, built in 1095 by King Erik 1st, "Eric the Good". The vicars at the church include the famous baroque writer, Thomas Kingo 1668-77. There are three churchsbells in the 35 metres high tower out of which the oldest dates back to year 1200.

A large number of concerts are given by the Cathedral.
